Kalekoy Harbour

Kalekoy harbour, which is located in the Demre district of Antalya and is famous for its historical and natural beauties, is one of the most fascinating routes in the Mediterranean. Known as Simena in ancient times, this charming village is one of the rare settlements that can only be reached by sea, offering its visitors both a historical journey and a peaceful holiday experience.

Kaleköy’s history dates back to the 4th century BC. Simena, an important port city of the Lycian civilization, continued its existence as a strategic settlement in the Roman and Byzantine periods. Simena Castle, located on the top of the village, was built in the Middle Ages for defense against pirates and today offers visitors a unique view of Kekova. Inside the castle, there is a small amphitheater with a capacity of 300 people carved into the rocks; this theater is the smallest theater in the Lycian region.

On the northern shore of Kekova Island, just across from Kaleköy, the ruins of the ancient city of Dolichiste can be seen underwater. This sunken city was partially submerged as a result of an earthquake in the 2nd century AD. The sarcophagi in the sea and the remains of underwater structures offer visitors an experience intertwined with history.

Kalekoy fascinates not only with its history but also with its natural beauty. You can walk in the narrow streets of the village, climb up to the castle on the hill and watch the panoramic view of Kekova. You can also spend time in nature with activities such as swimming in the clear waters of the region, canoe tours and photography.

Kaleköy and Kekova region is at its most beautiful in spring and summer. Air temperature and sea water temperature are quite suitable between April and October. You can choose May, June or September to avoid the crowds.
