Kalkan is located in the south-western corner of Turkey and until 1920s was an old fishermen’s village by the name of Kalamaki (Beautiful Cove). Being a safe harbour througout history, it was an important export centre for agricultural and forest product brought here from the neighbouring villages (Islamlar village, Bezirgan village, Sütlüğen village rtc.)Kalkan with the ancient structure is under protection. There is the Kalamar bay to the west of Kalkan, Kömürlük and Kışla are on the east of Kalkan.
In Turkey it is very rare to swim at such a beautiful beach located in the city centre. Fresh water surges from the depths of sea and river carries the cool waters flowing down from the mountains at this clean public beach with free entrance.
